All Work & No Play…

It wasn’t until just recently that I felt the weight of that phrase… “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

It has been about 3 months since I said goodbye my full time job and co-workers. Balance was a huge part of that decision. The joy of being a mom, wife and helper on the farm were outweighing any reason to work “in town”.

I had so many dreams of what that would look like… and so far, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I HAD A JOB and got anything done at home. I have a farmers tan and a clean garden (for now) but the laundry still piles up and the dishes always need to be done. Miss M. has been right by our side and is loving morning chores/feeding the cows to keep them “healthy and strong”.

Miss M. is actually the reason that this phrase stuck out to me. As an adult it is easy to just work and push through week after week and not take time to “play”. Steve and I are hard working, driven people but we both saw this phrase being lived out when Miss M. spoke up without saying anything at all. We knew, Miss M. was becoming a “dull girl”. Between tractor rides, haying, fencing and moving cows to pasture she enjoyed it all but she didn’t have balance!!

We can’t take the work away but we can take a girl away from the work! We are so grateful that we have cousins, grandparents, neighbors and friends so close that we can strive to give Miss M. (AND OURSELVES) the balance she needs!
