Our Family
Steve grew up on his family’s grain farm in rural Lake Crystal, Minnesota. From a young age, he and his twin brother spent time riding in the tractor, walking the bean fields to pull weeds and picking rocks in the field. It is that foundation which has developed his love for rural living and farming.
Jessi grew up on her family’s grain and hog farm in rural Vernon Center, Minnesota. Being raised on the farm has developed her work ethic and love for farm animals.
Steve and Jessi met in high school and later were married in 2005 joining our farm lives. We have been through many calving and farming seasons together and are looking forward to the future seasons!
In 2018 we welcomed our daughter, Miss M. to the farm. She is a joy and loves her dog(Willow), kitties and cows.
Our Farm
All across our countryside there are farm families building a legacy and making memories while working hard to provide for the needs of their families & yours.
Our legacy started with Steve’s grandfather & his great grandfather and their love for cattle. We reminisce in those deep roots by looking at old black & white pictures of their cattle. One that comes to mind is of his grandma as a teenager walking a halter broke, tame Hereford steer and posing for a picture like she had won first prize at the state fair!
Jessi joined that legacy in 2005 and quickly developed the same love & care for cattle that Steve inherited from his great grandfather. With Steve’s education in agricultural production & Jessi’s natural mothering skills we make a great team in ensuring our cattle have the best care & attention.
In 2018, we added a special little farmhand to our farm and she watches over the cattle even closer than we do. Our legacy will continue on with our daughter, Miss M. and we are excited to watch her and our farm grow!
Our Herd
Our cows are a part of our family and we know everything about them.
What do we mean by that?
We know who our boss cow is
We can ID a cow just by looking at her
We know which cows spend time together on the pasture
We know which cows to give extra space to after they have their calves
We know who is always looking to have her head scratched
We know which cow is first to the feed bunk.
To say that we care about our cows is an understatement.
We feel that the character of our herd comes from the environment & herdsmanship we provide them. We are Beef Quality Assurance Certified, which means that we are trained & tested on topics ranging from humane handling to the proper treatment of sick animals. By splitting our cows into a spring and fall calving herd, we are able to give each herd focused attention while meeting the needs of our customers throughout the year. It is also a joy to always have every age and stage of cattle on our farm at the same time.
Our cows and their calves enjoy the cycles of the seasons. After spring has sprung & the pasture grass grows, they get the freedom of the pasture all summer long. Once fall and winter approach we bring them back home, give them access to a freshly harvested corn field and keep them bedded for warmth. Just like high school graduates, our calves grow and start out on their own. We wean our calves at 500-600 lbs and are ready for your home at around 1,300 lbs.
We take pride in the quality our cow herd, knowing that quality cows produce quality calves. Steve prides himself in researching and investing in the right bulls for our cow herd and new heifers that we breed. Our focus on genetics has produced dividends when we see the results of our cattle’s grading and continued satisfaction of our customers.
