Our Journey
From Scratch…
Snow Like No Other….
All Work & No Play…
Calving Care
It feels like just yesterday that Steve reminded me “6 weeks until calving” and now we have more than half of the calves running around! We have been sharing a lot of pictures of our new arrivals but we thought we would share more of the behind the scenes and what goes into taking care of our herd during calving season!
Mother(ing)
I can hardly explain my reaction when I turned around and saw this 2 year old giving her baby a precious kiss on the head during our daily chores. My mind couldn’t comprehend her natural mothering skills and mannerisms.
Empty Satisfaction
Pastures are a cow’s summer dream. They love them so much that each year we have a different experience bringing them back home for the winter. By different, I mean difficult.
Double…. Trouble?
Life is a gift, a miracle. We celebrate every little calf born on our farm and sometimes we are surprised with twins! 2020 has been our year for twins.
Dirty Jobs
Sometimes farming feels like Facebook, you report the good and put on a happy, clean image of yourself. Sometimes we show pictures of grass but don’t show the cow pie laying in the weeds.
At Home
The past few months have brought an interesting change for our farm. Working my full time job at home has been an adjustment but somehow farm life and work have remained the only constant.
Peaceful Pastures
We feel grateful to walk through pastures on a warm but pleasant Saturday morning. Something about watching cow & calves pairing up, resting and roaming the wide open spaces gives you joy. It makes you wish you could sit for hours.
Pasture Prep & Moving Days
Our farm does not rely solely on pasture or hay to feed our cattle but this time of year give us joy knowing that our cows are grazing to their heart’s content.
Grow, Baby, Grow!
Tonight Miss M., Willow and I took a walk down our gravel road, making a pit stop at our alfalfa grass field.
Spring Calves Keep Coming
Even though the planting season has begun, calves keep arriving. Miss M. and I have been promoted to the primary caretakers of our calves while Steve is planting.
Preparing for Planting
Starting A New Season….Early April always brings new hope & a new season of growth.
